Cards win 7-0, move to 3-0 for season
The University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated the University of Texas at El Paso 7-0 Friday morning at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Â
"The main thing I look for is progress against our opponents. We made that particular team look not as competitive as they are. This team was better than both teams from last week although we had similar scores," said Mark Beckham, UofL head coach. "I stay on my team about not giving our opponents anything for free and they were able to do that today. They got pushed in a couple of sets and we made adjustments. It was a good start to the day."
Â
To start the morning, No. 1 doubles team Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz defeated Lois Wagenvoort and Yvette van Oijen 6-1, followed by No. 3 doubles team Ariana Rodriguez and Tiffany Huber defeating Raven Bennett and Chloe Purkiss 6-1 to claim the first point of the match. No. 2 doubles pair Sena Suswam and Raven Neely defeated Maria Paula Medina and Milena Baigorria 6-0 to complete the doubles sweep.
Â
No. 2 Abbie Pahz was the first to notch a singles point for the Cardinals, overtaking Yvette van Oijen 6-2, 6-1. No. 5 Ariana Rodriguez followed suit, earning a win over Maria Paula Medina 6-0, 6-0. No. 1 Mariana Humberg put the winning point for the Cardinals on the scoreboard, emerging victorious over Lois Wagenvoot 6-2, 6-1. UTEPÂ drops to 2-1 on the season.
Â
Louisville (3-0) finished the morning with three more singles sweeps. No. 3. Tiffany Huber defeated Raven Bennett 6-2, 6-2, while Maya Smith overtook Alisa Morozova 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6.
