Louisville vs. Florida State Postgame Quotes
January 11, 2018 | Men's Basketball
Louisville 73 Florida State 69
Louisville Head Coach David Padgett
Â
Opening Statement:
"Obviously just extremely proud of my players. Obviously for the win first and foremost but just the way we battled back. It could have gone the other way in a hurry on us, we were down 13 at halftime I think it got to 17 at one point and just for us to be resilient. We said at halftime if we could just take care of the backboard a little bit better we'll get back in the game and we just slowly but surely chipped away at it. Extremely happy to come out of here with about as good a road win as we've had in a couple years."
Â
What strategy did you change in the second half?
"Offensively we didn't change anything to be honest. We did a good job of sharing the ball we missed a couple open looks but defensively we relied pretty heavily on our zone and just did a good job of rebounding the ball. I know they had 19 offensive rebounds 11 of those were in the first half so we just did a good job of rebounding the ball, we were able to get out on the break a little bit more. Overall an unbelievable team effort and team win"
Â
How much did you feel like you needed this win?
"We've been so close a couple times. Last week obviously at Purdue we were close. Even at home we were right there. We just needed to get over the hump a little bit and I told the guys at halftime last weekend we lost because we kept turning the ball over that was the only reason pretty much, and I said 'let's not let the backboard be the only reason we can't get out of here with a win. Let's get this going let's get to the backboard and rebound and we'll get back in the game' and our guys came out in the second half and did a great job."
Â
What did you say during that 13-minute delay when they were fixing the net
"I was trying to figure out what if they can't get it fixed do they bring out another basket? That effects both teams it can help both teams both teams are going through it but it's just something we had to deal with. I said if we lose this one because of this delay then I've seen it all."
Â
How important getting a win on the road is and how it will matter at the end when it comes to rankings and seedings?
"There's an old adage in conference play you want to try to go undefeated at home and try to split on the road. Obviously you want to win as many road games as you can and we lost a close one last weekend but we were able to get this one so any road win in conference whether it's a top 25 team or not is a great win. We're extremely happy with it but it doesn't get any easier because we've got a great Virginia Teach team coming in on Saturday."
Florida State Head Coach Leonard Hamilton
Â
On the offensive approach in the 2nd half
"In the first half we made some threes, but because we were sputtering a little bit we had to attack off the dribble."
Â
On Christ Koumadje's performance…
"Christ had great stats in the first half, but getting him back onto the floor and getting his timing in sync with us was a little bit of a challenge tonight."
Â
On the turnovers throughout the game…
"We made some untimely turnovers that gave them (Louisville) some extra possessions and I thought they really took advantage of."
Â
On the message to his team after loss at home…
"We didn't talk a whole lot about the loss at home… Very few teams go undefeated, what we have to do is learn from this."
