August 28, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Kickoff is set for Monday at 7:30 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The No. 9 University of Louisville men's soccer team hosts the No. 25 Butler Bulldogs at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium in the Cardinals' first top 25 showdown of the 2017 season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m., ET and the match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.
Both teams are off to a 1-0Â starts with the Cardinals beating UC Irvine 2-1 last Friday night, and Butler defeating the defending Horizon League champion, UIC, 1-0 on the same evening. Â
The two teams last met in the season opener in 2016 with the game ending in a 0-0 draw. The Cardinals dominated for much of the contest, but redshirt senior goalkeeper Eric Dick kept the Cardinals offense at bay. Dick collected man-of-the-match honors, registering 10 saves on the night.Â
Louisville won its 2017 season-opener behind junior Adrien Cabon's first-half brace. In the 25th minute, the Frenchman gathered in a loose ball at the top of the box and curled his shot past UC Irvine goalkeeper Greg Patenaude for his first collegiate goal of his career. Â
Cabon doubled his account four minutes later. He raced down the left flank and controlled the ball the Anteaters failed to clear. He finished past Patenaude inside the far-right post. Both goals featured in the NCAA's goals of the week. Highlights of the game can be see here.Â
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch made two key saves to earn the victory.Â
Following tonight's match, the No. 9 Cardinals will travel to Atlanta to take on Georgia State on Friday at 7:30 p.m., before returning home to face Kentucky in the annual Battle of the Bluegrass on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
