Cards have first-ever televised match on ESPN
LOUISVILLE, Ky – The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell to Florida State 4-0 on Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. In their first outdoor match of the season, Louisville (12-5, 1-4) got out to a slow start, but split sets on courts five and six and was leading in the second set on court four when the match was decided.
"We started out rough. The conditions were not ideal to play in and that actually suited FSU better because they play so much outdoor tennis, said Mark Beckham, UofL head coach. "We used the first hour to get used to conditions and then dug ourselves a hole. We didn't play well in doubles today. We are a pretty good doubles team and we didn't show who we were. Then in singles, we got down quick. We lost every first set but got into a rhythm in thesecond set, but it was too late. Credit to FSU, they adjusted to the conditions. We need to learn from this match. Now we leave early to go to Boston to face a good Boston College team. But we will bounce back just fine."
The Seminoles (9-8, 1-3) took the doubles point to capture the first point of the match. On No. 2, the duo of Elle Stokes and Ariana Rodriguez fell to Nandini Das and Ariana Rahmanparast 6-1. The duo of Daniela Schippers and Gabriella Castaneda defeated Aleksandra Mally and Olivia Boesing on No. 3, 6-3, to take the doubles point.
Â
Gabriella Castaneda defeated Aleksandra Mally 6-0, 6-2 on No. 1 to give FSU a 2-0 lead. At the three-spot No. 103 Julia Mikulski defeated Stokes 6-2, 6-4 to give the Seminoles a 3-0 lead. On No. 2, Nandini Das secured the FSU win with a win over Mariana Humberg 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).
