
Women’s Basketball Meets Tennessee in NCAA Tournament Second Round

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 13-ranked University of Louisville women's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Championship second round and faces Tennessee on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
The No. 4-seed Cardinals (28-7) and No. 5-seed Lady Vols are meeting in the KFC Yum! Center for the second time in series history, with Dave O'Brien (play-by-play), Doris Burke (analyst), and Kara Lawson (analyst) calling the action on ESPN2. WKRD 790 AM will broadcast the game, with Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst) calling the action.

Louisville is coming off an 82-62 victory over Chattanooga in the opening round of the tournament after setting an NCAA Tournament school record with 28 assists. The Cardinals connected on 61.0 percent of their shots, improving head coach Jeff Walz's record to 9-0 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Louisville outscored Chattanooga 46-16 in the paint.
Asia Durr finished with a game-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting. Myisha Hines-Allen recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds for her 16th double-double of the season, and Jazmine Jones added 14 points and three assists off the bench.
Tennessee (20-11) advanced after beating Dayton 66-57, connecting on 22-of-33 free throws in the victory. Both teams finished with less than 10 turnovers, but Dayton shot just 32.3 percent from the field.
Diamond DeShields had a game-high 24 points, going 8 of 14 from the field, adding five assists. Mercedes Russell (14 points, 10 rebounds) and Schaquilla Nunn (14 points, 15 rebounds) each recorded double-doubles.
The two teams are meeting for the fourth time in series history, the second in the NCAA Tournament.
The Cardinals earned an 86-78 victory in the Chesapeake Energy Arena on April 2, 2013. Louisville connected on 45.5 percent of its shots from the floor, but more impressively went 18 of 21 from the free
throw line. The Cardinals outscored the Lady Vols 40-26 in the paint.
Tennessee's only lead in the game came after a made free throw, giving them a 1-0 advantage. Shoni Schimmel then hit a 3 and UofL led for the remainder of the contest.
Shoni Schimmel scored a game-high 24 points, connecting on four 3s, while her sister Jude logged 15 points and two steals. Bria Smith added 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists, and both Monique Reid (12) and Sara Hammond (11) reached double figures in points. Tabe Spani paced Tennessee with 20 points.
