Cards improve to 11-4 on the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated Northern Kentucky 7-0 Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals (11-4) will return to action against Evansville Friday evening at 5 p.m.
Â
"I just feel like today was good," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "Every match I give them certain goals. The goal today was control your half of the court, obviously respond to the ball that's coming to you, but that's it. I was more concerned with what we're doing as opposed to what our opponents were doing. We've got to really get focused in and zoned in on tightening up certain things with us. It doesn't really matter who we're playing against. It's strictly about what we do, and I wanted them to really focus on that. They succeeded in it."
Â
The Cardinals swept all three doubles courts to take the first point of the match. Olivia Boesing and Tiffany Huber gave Louisville an early edge with a 6-3 win over Sierra Nellessen and Yasmine Xantos at the three-spot. The duo of Elle Stokes and Mariana Humberg beat Klara Skopac and Margita Sunjic 6-1 at No. 1 to clinch the point while Ariana Rodriguez and Aleksandra Mally wrapped up doubles play with a 6-3 decision against Katja Dijanezevic and Daneille Donahue.
Â
In singles action, Boesing defeated Nellessen 6-2, 6-0 on court six to extend the Cardinals' lead to 2-0. Jessie Paul followed quickly with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Donohue at No. 3. Huber topped Dijanezevic 6-1, 6-0 to secure the victory with the fourth point of the match.
Â
Rodriguez beat Sydney Power 6-0, 6-2 to make the score 5-0. Mally defeated Sunjic 7-5, 6-3 on court one to push the Cardinals' lead to 6-0. Humberg wrapped up the victory with a 4-6, 6-3 (10-7) win over Skopac on court two.
