Cards edged in four hour battle
Louisville, KY. – The University of Louisville's women's tennis team grabbed the doubles point and two singles matches on Friday evening before falling to the Panthers 4-3 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"We had so many opportunities to put ourselves in a position to win that match. We were up 3-1, Mariana Humberg was serving the match point but couldn't quite get it done. I feel bad for Ola (Aleksandra Mally) because she shouldn't be in that position. She is still at about 60 percent into her comeback and that is a difficult situation to try to win the match for us. The strength of our lineup is the bottom and they were not able to get it for us." Â
Louisville started off by securing the doubles point. The Cardinals' No.1 team of Abbie Pahz and Mariana Humberg beat Tarani Kamoe and Irina Taluyenko 7-5. Louisville's No. 3 team of Sena Suswam and Olivia Boesing fought to win a 6-4 match against Daniela Ramirez and Anastasia Grosheva to secure the doubles point. Louisville's No. 2 team of Ariana Rodriguez and Jessie Paul fell to Damira Muminovic and Kristin Rehse, 6-1.
The singles began with Olivia Boesing suffering a defeat to Damira Muminovic, 6-4, 6-0. Abbie Pahz took the lead back by beating Lara Vovk, 6-2, 6-0. Sena Suswam continued the momentum when she fought to a victory in three sets over Daniela Ramirez, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1. Jessie Paul fell to Anastasia Grosheva, 7-5, 6-4, followed by Mariana Humberg's come back falling short, 3-6, 6-4, 5-7. Ending the evening, Aleksandra Mally played Irina Taluyeko in a hard-fought, three-set match, but ultimately fell 5-7, 7-5, 6-7.
"Sena stepped up and told to herself that she had to play as good as she could and she did that. I am happy for her," said Beckham.

The Cards play Miami of Ohio at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
