
No. 3 Women's Basketball to Host Tennessee State on Tuesday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - On Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET, No. 3 Women's Basketball closes out their four-game homestand against Tennessee State in their annual Ugly Sweater Game.
After winning all three games last week to move to 11-0, Louisville moves up to No. 3 in the Associated Press poll. It marks their highest ranking since they were No. 3 on March 10, 2014. No. 3 is the highest Louisville has ever been in the AP poll.
In their win on Saturday, the Cards held Middle Tennessee to just 26 points, which was one off the school-record of 25 points allowed (vs. Centre, 11/29/77; vs. TSU , 12/31/12). Louisville is giving up 55.3 points per game, which ranks 23rd in the country and fifth in the ACC. After allowing just 26 points to MTSU, nationally they moved up to 23rd from 57th.
Louisville held MTSU to single digit points in all four quarters, marking the first time they have done so in program history. Including the second and third quarters vs. Vanderbilt, they have held opponents to single digits in six of the last seven quarters. Last year, they held opponents to single digits in five of six quarters and three straight in games against Western Kentucky, South Dakota State and College of Charleston from Dec. 11 to Dec. 16.
Last Thursday, they held Vandy to four points in the third quarter, tying their season-low for points allowed in a quarter. The Commodores shot 1-9 (.111) in the third quarter and seven of their nine shots were 3-pointers (1-7).
Fourteen times this season, UofL has held opponents to single digit scoring quarters.
The Cards forced a season-high 31 turnovers in their win over MTSU. It marked their most turnovers forced since they forced 32 twice last season (at UT Martin, vs. Bowling Green).Â
Louisville limited Middle Tennessee to 20.5 percent shooting (8-39), marking the lowest percentage since they limited Wake Forest to 19.4 percent shooting (12-62) on Feb. 26, 2017. In their last four games, they are limiting opponents to 33.0 percent shooting overall (68-206) and 26.3 percent shooting (20-76) from deep, while holding them to 50.8 points.
Offensively, the Cards recorded a season-high 26 assists in their win over MTSU, assisting on 26 of 27 buckets. Last season, they had more than 25 assists just once when they had 28 in their first round NCAA Tournament win over Chattanooga. They had 26 assists to 13 turnovers vs. MTSU, for a 2.0-to-1.0 assist-to-turnover margin, which is their best mark since they had 28 assists to 12 turnovers vs. Chattanooga last year. Four times they have recorded 20-plus assists this season.
Their 18.1 assists per game rank 24th in the country and third in the ACC.Â

Tennessee State (1-5) picked up their first win of the season on Saturday, a 93-48 victory over Fisk (NAIA). In the win, junior forward Tia Wooten posted her second double-double of the season with 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, while freshman guard Franceska Brown registered a career-high 19 points with 9 rebounds.
Wooten leads the team in scoring with 22.0 points and 8.5 rebounds. Freshman Taylor Roberts averages 15.8 points and 8.3 rebounds, while senior Maxine Beard averages a team-best 4.5 assists. Brown averages 6.2 points and 2.5 boards.
UofL is 3-2 all-time against Tennessee State. Four of their five matchups came in 1986 and 1987 as the two teams split home-and-homes both years. In their last meeting on Dec. 31, 2012, Louisville downed Tennessee State, 88-25, holding the Tigers to 25 points, which tied the program record for points allowed in a game.
