The teams enter the final day with the overall score tied
The 2017-18 edition of the came to a close this morning. The teams entered the final day with the overall score tied at 500-500 with one final event on the slate. Sophomore Sydney Warinner delivers her final blog entry of the competition.
Â
For the fourth and final day of the 2017 OKC Challenge, the Louisville softball team reported to the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center (KFEC) for the truck push. For this event, each team would have to push a truck, set in neutral gear, around the KFEC loop with only five players pushing the truck at a time. Afterwards, the team must complete 10 perfect jumping jacks. The team to finish both tasks in the shortest amount of time would win.
Â
The Red Squad attacked the truck push first. Its total time, which included the truck push, jumping jacks, and three penalties of 15 seconds each, was 43 minutes and 3 seconds. Despite its hard work and perseverance, the Black Squad finished these tasks roughly 30 seconds later.
Â
Both deserve credit for their incredible performances during the past four days of OKC. Here is an overview of the competition as a whole:
Â
The Black Squad entered day one of OKC with 100 points for cooking four 25-point meals, while the Red Squad earned 50 points for cooking two meals. On day one, the Black Team won two events, the race to the stadium run and the stadium run itself, earning it 150 points. Since the Red Team did not win an event that day, the score advanced to 250-50.
Â
On day two, the Black Squad won the 100 mile bike race, the Tower of Hanoi Challenge, and tug-of-war, therefore, earning 250 points to take a 500-50 lead.
Â
One day three, the Red Squad won four innings and earned 100 points for each and then won the 50-point bonus round which tied the score at 500-500. Â
Â
Day four involved only one event, which the Red Squad won to break the tie.
Â
Although the OKC Challenge concluded today, the unwavering grit displayed by both squads during the past week will continue to fuel our team as we, together, propel into the spring. Â
