The Cardinals are coming off their seventh Sweet 16 appearance.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's basketball team is ranked ninth in the Associated Press preseason poll, which was announced on Thursday morning.
The Cardinals, who are coming off their seventh Sweet 16 appearance under the guidance of head coach Jeff Walz, received a spot in the poll's top 10 for the sixth time in the last seven seasons. UofL also earned a top-10 ranking in the USA Today preseason top 25 coaches' poll, which was released on Oct. 26.
Louisville squares off against five teams in the top 25, including No. 1 Connecticut. The Cardinals make the trip Storrs, Conn., on Feb. 12 to take on the 11-time national champions, who finished 36-1 last season.
The Cardinals meet two other top-10 teams throughout the season: No. 5 Ohio State on Nov. 11 and No. 6 Notre Dame at the KFC Yum! Center on Jan. 11. Louisville plays host to No. 12 Duke on Jan. 4 and No. 18 Florida State on Jan. 21.
The dynamic duo of Asia Durr and Myisha Hines-Allen headline the Cardinals' returnees. Louisville boasts three starters from last season's squad and welcomes the No. 4 recruiting class, according to the espnW Hoopgurlz rankings.
The Cardinals open their season on Nov. 10 at the KFC Yum! Center against Southeast Missouri. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
