No. 5 Women's Basketball to Host Toledo in Second Round of WNIT
November 13, 2017 | Women's Basketball
The Cards and the Rockets will tip off at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday night.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Following a thrilling 95-90 overtime victory over then-No. 5 Ohio State, Louisville women's basketball returns to WNIT action as they host Toledo in the second round on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET.
The winner of Tuesday's contest will play Michigan in the WNITÂ semifinals.
With the win on Sunday, the Cardinals moved up four spots to No. 5 in the Associated Press poll. The win marked their first over a top five team since they upset Baylor in the 2013 semifinal.
Asia Durr, who was just named ACC Player of the Week, shined in front of a national television audience in the win over the Buckeyes.
The junior guard and Preseason ACC Player of the Year finished the game with a school-record 47 points. She also tied the school record with nine three-pointers.Â
She finished the game 16-of-29 from the floor, 9-of-15 from three-point range and 6-of-6 from the free throw line, while adding six rebounds and two assists.
While Durr was rightfully the one in the spotlight, the win on Sunday was a team effort as they limited Ohio State to just four offensive rebounds and outrebounded them by 18.
Senior Myisha Hines-Allen recorded her 30th career double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds, while junior Sam Fuehring and sophomore Jazmine Jones finished in double figures. Fuehring also was a spark on the defensive end, recording six charges.
Last season, Toledo went 25-9 and 12-6 in MAC play. They claimed the MAC Tournament championship with an 82-71 win over Northern Illinois to earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament. They fell to Creighton in the first round, 76-49.
Toledo (1-0) opened the season with a 74-66 home triumph over Saint Francis (PA) on Friday in the first round of the Preseason WNIT. The Rockets shot 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field and held a commanding 52-14 edge in points in the paint. Toledo also limited SFU to 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the floor and forced 30 turnovers, which they translated into 22 points. Junior Kaayla McIntyre paced the 2017 Mid-American Conference Champions with 17 points and a career-high 12 boards to post her first-collegiate double-double, followed by senior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott and junior Mikaela Boyd with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
This marks the first ever meeting between the Cardinals and the Rockets.
