On Friday night, the Cardinals opened the game on a 16-0 run and closed the first half on a 14-0 run to go into the locker room with a 42-11 lead.
The lead did not drop below 31 points the rest of the way as Louisville cruised to a 40-point win.
With the victory, the Cardinals improved to 9-2 in season openers under head coach Jeff Walz. All-time, the Cardinals are 24-19 in first games of the year.
Sophomore guard Jazmine Jones led all scorers with 12 points in 20 minutes of action, marking her fifth career game in double figures. She added four rebounds and four assists.
Senior forward Myisha Hines-Allen only played 15 minutes, but recorded 11 rebounds for her 34th game with double-digit boards.
Asia Durr registered eight points, three assists, and two rebounds. She connected on one 3-pointer, extending her streak to 40 games with at least one trey. It is the second-longest active streak nationally, only trailing Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell's streak of 58 games.
Louisville Team Notes
- Louisville finished the game with 80 points, enhancing its record to 177-20 when surpassing the 70-point plateau under Walz. The Cardinals were 18-3 last season when reaching the mark.
- The Cardinals held the Redhawks to just five points in the first quarter and six in the second quarter. Last year, Louisville limited its opponents to single-digit points in a quarter 23 times.
- Louisville forced 28 turnovers in the win, converting the opportunities into 33 points. It is the most turnovers by an opponent since Wake Forest lost possession 29 times on Feb. 26, 2017.
- Louisville connected on 8-of-18 3-pointers in the victory, the second-highest total in a season opener under Walz. The program, under Walz's watch, hit nine twice (Loyola Chicago, 2013; UT Martin, 2016).
- Louisville's bench contributed 44 points in the win, with all six reserves at least scoring one basket.
- The Cardinals dished out 22 assists on 29 field goals, helping on 75.9 percent of their baskets.
- Louisville, which led for 39:17 in the contest, sprinted out to a 16-0 lead to open the game. Southeast Missouri didn't score its first field goal until 1:02 left in the first period. The Redhawks scored their first point with 3:15 remaining in the quarter.
