Morin-Kougoucheff and Wynn upset NC State' 14th-ranked duo
The University of Louisville's Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn defeated North Carolina State's Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden in the main draw consolation bracket of the ITA All-American Championship Friday afternoon at Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The 29th-ranked Cardinal duo of junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and sophomore Parker Wynn outlasted the 14th-ranked Wolfpack pair of Alexis Galarneau and Michael Ogden 6-4, 7-6(1) in the first round of the main draw consolation bracket.
"Parker and Chris are starting to gel as a doubles team in their second weekend together," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "The communication was much better. We got up 6-4 5-2, then State made a fierce comeback to go into a tiebreaker. They are 14th in the country, so I knew they would not go away. We played a flawless tiebreaker and won it 7-1. We have to continue with this high level of play as we take on Arizona State tomorrow."
The Cardinals will take on Arizona State's Michael Geerts and Time Ruehl in the consolation quarterfinals Saturday afternoon.
