Men's Tennis Continues Strong Play at Florida Gulf Coast Spring Invite

Cards tally 10 wins on Saturday
FT. MYERS, Fla. –Sophomore Brandon Lancaster and freshman Clement FIlho each had a pair of singles victories as University of Louisville men's tennis team turned in another strong performance with 10 wins on day two of the Florida Gulf Coast Invite Saturday at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

"We are now getting acclimated to the Florida outdoors," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Those guys are building momentum. We had the late match tonight and the early match tomorrow. Our trainer, Steve Hoelscher, now has to find a way to get these guys' tired bodies revitalized for tomorrow morning against Wisconsin."

The Cards took five of six matches against Wisconsin. Lancaster (Louisville, Ky.) topped Elliott Sprecher 6-0, 6-1 and picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Darius Mackenzie. Filho (Paris, France) defeated Alan Sweet 6-0, 6-2 and sophomore Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff (Capbreton, France) beat Chema Carranza 7-6(7-2, 6-4). In doubles against the Badgers, sophomore Michael Quang (Forest Hills, Md) teamed with freshman Fredrik Moe (Moss, Norway) for a 6-2 win over Sprecher and Sweet.

In a late match against host Florida Gulf Coast, UofL won two of three doubles matches. Senior Sean Donohue (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Parker Wynn (North Richland Hills, Texas) earned a 6-4 decision against Andres Alfonzo and Ezequiel Cerrini while Rouanet and Moe paired for a 6-4 win over Javier Fernandez and Sam Chaffin.

The Cards went on to claim three more singles wins against Florida Gulf Coast with Rouanet besting Oliver Landert 6-2, 6-4 on court one. Wynn defeated Alfonzo 7-6, 6-1 at No. 2 and Filho rounded out the singles victories with a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Chaffin on court six.

The preseason tournament will conclude on Sunday.
