Cards post 11 wins on final day of preseason tournament
FT. MYERS, Fla. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team wrapped up the Florida Gulf Coast Spring Invite with 11 wins on Sunday at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
Â
"We got better each day here," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "We always teach our players to play their best in the final day and that is what they did. Parker and Sean ended up undefeated at No. 1 doubles. They have a career 6-0 record. They volley so well and get to the net every point which makes them hard to beat. Four of our players won in three sets - credit that to our trainer, Steve Hoelscher. They grew in mental toughness and grew overall as a team. That is all that we can hope for. Lastly, Brandon Lancaster and Clement Filho were a combined 10-0 this weekend without dropping a set. They will bring a lot of momentum going into our opening dual match on January 20."
Â
The Cardinals won three of six doubles matchups against Wisconsin. The duo of senior Sean Donohue (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Parker Wynn (North Richland Hills, Texas) stayed perfect on the weekend with a 6-4 win over Chema Carrana and Josef Dodridge. Sophomores Brandon Lancaster (Louisville, Ky.) and George Hedley (Berkshire, England) teamed to beat Darius Mackenzie and Daniel Soyfer6-2 and junior Santiago Salazar (Medellin, Colombia) paired with freshman Clement Filho (Paris, France) for a 6-3 decision against Elliott Sprecher and Alan Sweet.
Â
Louisville took eight of 11 singles matches. Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff rebounded from a 6-4 first set loss to beat Josef Dodridge to take the next two sets 6-3, 7-5. Junior Nicolas Rouanet (Gujan Mestres, France) lost his first set 7-5 to Chase Colton, but prevailed 7-6, 10-6 to win the match. Wynn posted a 6-2, 6-1 decision against Lamar Remy.
