No. 9 Women’s Basketball Travels to No. 7 Florida State for Top-10 Matchup

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's basketball takes on its third top-10 opponent this season, when it plays at No. 9 Florida State on Thursday in the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla., at 7 p.m.
The Jan. 12 game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with Tom Block (play-by-play) and Melissa Bruner (analyst) calling the action. Louisville's radio broadcast can be heard on WKRD 790 AM, featuring Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst).
Louisville (15-3, 3-1 ACC) are coming off their second-straight league victory with a 73-52 victory over Pittsburgh at home. The Cardinals went 18 of 27 from the free throw line and forced 24 turnovers for 27 points. Louisville also collected 17 second-chance points.
Mariya Moore led the way with a team-high 18 points, while fellow starter Myisha Hines-Allen contributed 11 points, nine rebounds, and four steals. Jazmine Jones tallied 13 points in 21 minutes off the bench, and Ciera Johnson added 11 points.
On the year, Asia Durr is pacing the team with 17.3 points per game and 60 3-pointers, fourth-most nationally. Hines-Allen is averaging 13.7 points and 9.3 rebounds, while Moore is carrying averages of 12.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists.
Collectively, Louisville ranks in the top-20 nationally in assists per game (No. 12), scoring margin (No. 19), and turnover margin (No. 16).
Florida State (15-2, 3-1) has won consecutive league contests after falling to NC State, beating North Carolina and Duke last week.
In their most recent outing, the Seminoles forced the Blue Devils into 20 turnovers that translated into 24 points. Florida State, which led 26-15 at the half, stifled Duke to just 25.4 percent from the floor and 0 of 11 from 3-point range. Conversely, the Seminoles hit 45.8 percent of their shots and went 10 of 11 from the free throw line.
Shakayla Thomas scored a game-high 22 points on 10-of-17 shooting, while grabbing a team-best eight rebounds. Imani Wright totaled 14 points, and Chatrice White came off the bench and tallied eight points, five rebounds, and four blocks. Leticia Romero led the team with six assists and three steals. Kyla Lambert had 12 points to lead Duke in the loss.
Through 17 games played, Romero is pacing the team in scoring (14.5). Thomas is averaging 13.3 points to go with 5.8 rebounds, while fellow starters Imani Wright (11.9) and Ivey Slaughter (10.7) also are producing double figures. Brittany Brown boasts team highs in assists (94) and steals (44).
Collectively, Florida State ranks in the top-15 nationally in scoring margin (No. 6), rebound margin (No. 7), scoring offense (No. 10), field goal percentage (No. 11), and free throws made (No. 12).
WELCOME HOME, JAZMINE JONES
Louisville's Jazmine Jones is returning to her hometown Tallahassee, the site of Thursday's Louisville-Florida State contest. Jones is averaging 4.6 points and 2.9 rebounds through 18 contests in her freshman season.
The five-star high school product starred at Florida A&M Developmental Research School, where she was tabbed the 10th-best guard in the class of 2016 by espnW. She was voted the 2015-16 Florida Gatorade Player of the Year for girls' basketball and finished her prep career with more than 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 500 steals, and 500 assists.
SERIES HISTORY – Florida State vs. Louisville
Florida State boasts a 14-13 series lead against Louisville, but the Cardinals have won three of the last five meetings.
The two teams met on New Year's Day last time out, and the Cardinals earned a 79-69 victory on Jan. 1, 2016. Louisville, which outscored Florida State 19-6 in the first period, shot 47.5 percent from the field. The Cardinals forced 24 turnovers that led to 30 points.
Mariya Moore scored a team-high 20 points on 5-of-12 shooting, while also tallying five rebounds and eight assists. Briahanna Jackson added 15 points, four assists, and four steals, and Cortnee Walton finished with nine points and 11 rebounds. Adut Bulgak scored a game-high 22 points for Florida State, which also received double-digit points from reserve Shakayla Thomas (15).
