
Women’s Cross Country Takes First, While Men Finish Third at Dayton Flyer 5K

Wasike and Kibichiy lead the Cardinals with wins in the women's and men's races
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's cross country won their first meet of the year at the Dayton Flyer 5K in Dayton, Ohio, while the men's team finished in third place. Freshman Dorcas Wasike, of the women's team, and senior Edwin Kibichiy, of the men's team, finished first in their respective races.
"The women's squad was very impressive today. It's great to see them open the season and show they have made great improvements from last year," said head coach Dale Cowper.
The women's team had five finishers in the top eight. Top finisher Wasike finished with a time of 18:03.1, while Caroline Gosser finished the meet third overall, and second for the Cardinals, with a time of 18:26.1. The Cardinals also took fifth, Bailey Davis, seventh, Mia Ross, and eighth, Claire Noser, with times of 18:33.4, 18:40.6, and 18:41.5 respectively.
The men's top finisher Kibichiy ran a time of 15:15.0. In total the Cardinals had four runners finish in the top 20. Senior Calvin Chemoiywo placed third in the overall meet for the Cardinals with a time of 15:20.4.
"Edwin and Calvin led the way for our men's squad with great efforts, but we have to do a better job of supporting them in the third, fourth, and fifth position," said coach Cowper.
Junior George Yator ran a time of 15:49.5 for the Cardinals, which was good enough to place 12th in the overall meet and 11th among Division I runners. Senior Jonathan Reynolds finished 20th overall and 17th among Divison I with a time of 16:03.9. Rounding out the top five for the Cardinals was sophomore Daniel Fleace who ran a time of 16:04.3, good enough to take home 21st overeall and 18th in Division I.
The women's team also had five other runners finish among the top 20. Sophomores Aurilla Wilson and Abigail Wright finished 11th and 12th with a times of 18:52.0 and 18:53.7, while freshman Bailey Beery finished 13th with a time of 19:07.7. Redshirt junior Adair Gennocro placed 15th and ran a time of 19:14.7, and freshman Lauren Radenhausen rounded out the top 20 for the Cardinals with a time of 19:27.3 and 20th place.
Both the men and the women will run their next race at the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn. on Sept. 17.
