Men's Tennis Set for Southern Intercollegiate Championships

Several members of the University of Louisville men's tennis team will travel to Athens, Ga., for the 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by the University of Georgia.

The annual tournament features a total of 170 singles players and 81 doubles pairs from 32 different schools and will be held Sept. 23-25 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

Sophomores Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and George Hedley, junior transfer Nicolas Rouanet and freshman Parker Wynn make their 2016-17 season debut as they represent the Cardinals this weekend.

This year's tournament includes student-athletes from the following schools: Arkansas, Armstrong State, Baylor, Belmont, Charlotte, Central Florida, Clemson, East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Elon, Florida, Gardner-Webb, Georgia, Georgia College, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Lander, Lipscomb, Louisville, Miami, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Old Dominion, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech.Â

The field will be divided into three singles divisions and two doubles divisions. Play is scheduled to begin Friday at 8 a.m. with Division I and II singles matches at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. All Division III matches on Friday will be played at the UGA intramural courts, with Day One action set to conclude with Divisions I and II doubles.

"We are excited about playing one of the most historic and prestigious collegiate tournaments in the country-the Southern Intercollegiate," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "This tournament is loaded with nationally-ranked teams, singles players and doubles teams. This will give us some really good opportunities and my guys are 'chomping at the bit' to go."
