Cross Country Set to Begin 2016 Season on Saturday

The Cardinals open the season at the Rich Davis Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge
LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams are set to open the 2016 season on Saturday, Sept. 3 when they travel to the Rich Davis Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering, Ohio.
The men's race will begin at 9:45 a.m. followed by the women's race at 10:15 a.m.
The Louisville men are coming off the best season in school history after finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships. The Cardinal men also won the NCAA Southeast Regional last year for the first time in school history. Senior Edwin Kibichiy will lead the way for the Cardinals this season. Kibichiy earned All-ACC and All-Region honors last year for the Cardinals. The men enter the season ranked 24th in the USTFCCCA Preseason poll.
The women's squad, ranked 13th in the ACC preseason coaches' poll, returns six runners from last season along with nine talented newcomers. Senior Claire Noser will lead the Cardinals after having a breakout season last year. Newcomer Caroline Gosser will make an immediate impact for Louisville this season. She earned All-Big East Cross Country honors last year at Xavier University. She set the school record in the 6K with a time of 20:24.5 at the Big East Championships.
