Clement Filho posts runner-up finish
The University of Louisville men's tennis team wrapped up its first fall tournament with four wins on the final day of the Greater Cincinnati Invitational Sunday afternoon.
Â
"We had a long weekend with a lot of matches," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "It was great for these players to get going with the season and gain valuable experience. We set the bar high and are not satisfied with the weekend but it is a good starting point for where we want to go."
Â
Freshman Clement Filho posted a runner-up finish picking up three straight wins to advance to the No. 1 singles finals where he fell 6-0, 6-4 to Dayton's Jordan Benjamin.
Â
In other singles action, Junior Ciro Lampasas defeated Dayton's Simon Jayaram 6-2, 6-2 and senior Sean Donohue beat Dayton's Bernardo Sanson 8-3.
Â
In doubles, Donohue and sophomore Michael Quang teamed to beat Case Western's David Zakhodin and Jon Benedetto 6-3. Lampasas and Filho picked up a 6-2 win over Zakhodin and Benedetto.
Â
The Cardinals will continue fall play Sept. 23-26 at the Southern Intercollegiate Fall Tournament in Athens, Ga.
