Freshman Clement Filho advances to singles semifinals on the first day of the rain-shortened Greater Cincinnati Invitational
The University of Louisville men's tennis team opened the 2016-17 fall season with four singles wins on day one of the Greater Cincinnati Invitational Friday. The tournament was delayed by rain and lightning with doubles matches being moved to Saturday.
Freshman Clement Filho (Paris, France) picked up a pair of singles wins to advance to Saturday's No. 1 singles semifinals. He opened his collegiate career with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Eastern Kentucky's Ramon van Flymen and went on to beat Lukas Clemens of Northern Kentucky 6-4, 6-0.
Senior Sean Donohue (Louisville, Ky.) won his first round match against Xavier's Jeremy Schneider 6-3, 2-6, 10-3 and was leading Dayton's Jordan Benjamin in the first set when the match was suspended due to inclement weather.
In the No. 2 singles draw, junior Ciro Lampasas (Houston, Texas) also won his first round match with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 decision against Wright State's Jonas Brezing, but his second round match was halted due to weather conditions.
