Series Notes
- Louisville leads the overall series 9-6 and has won the last three encounters. The Cardinals are now 5-3 all-time in the Carrier Dome after picking up their second-straight win.
- Head coach Bobby Petrino is 6-0 all-time against the Orange.
- Louisville is 3-0 versus Syracuse as members of the ACC.
Team Notes
- The Cardinals are 11-6 in ACC games and are 2-1 in conference openers.
- Louisville scored on the first play from scrimmage when QB Lamar Jackson hit James Quick with a 72-yard pass to go up 7-0. It was the first time since Brian Brohm hit Gary Barnidge with an 81-yard pass on the first play from scrimmage in Louisville's 58-42 win over Middle Tennessee on Sept. 6, 2007, that the Cards tallied a touchdown on the first play of the game.
- With the win, dating back to last season, the Cardinals have won 10 of their last 13 games.
- The Cards accumulated 845 yards of total offense, the sixth time in school history the Cards have totaled more than 700 yards of total offense in a game. It marks the fourth time head coach Bobby Petrino has directed an offense that totaled 700 or more yards at Louisville. He has done it twice as a head coach (779 vs. Houston in 2004).
- James Quick and Jamari Staples each recorded 100+ yards receiving in the game — marking the first time the Cards had multiple wide receivers record 100 or more yards in a game since 2007 when three players accomplished it (Harry Douglas 100, Gary Barnidge, 126 and Mario Urrutia, 142 versus Middle Tennessee in 2007.
- The Cards totaled a school-record 845 yards of total offense, the most yards Syracuse has allowed in a game in school history. (654 vs. West Virginia, 1993). The 845 yards were 13 yards short of an ACC record total.
- The Cardinals have scored 60 or more points in back-to-back games for the first time since 2005 — scoring 61 vs. Florida Atlantic and 69 vs. North Carolina.
- With 156 yards rushing, Brandon Radcliff established a career-best for rushing yards in a game – besting his previous high mark of 146 against Virginia last season. It also marked his sixth 100-yard game and his third career 100-yard rushing game versus Syracuse — two coming in the Carrier Dome.
- With a 21-yard touchdown on a reverse, Samuel tallied his first career rushing touchdown.
- Jackson set a school record for total offense with (610 yards; 199 rushing and 411 passing) — breaking Chris Redman's mark of 578 versus East Carolina, 1998). His 610 total yards were the most by a player in ACC history.
- Jackson set a school record with four rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (previous record: 3, Benny Russell vs. Dayton, 1965). It was the sixth time in school history a player has rushed for four touchdowns in a game.
- His six rushing touchdowns this season are tied for third by a quarterback in a season through just two games.
- Jackson totaled 199 yards rushing — the second most by a quarterback in school history, only second to his 226 yards versus Texas A&M last season. He has totaled 730 rushing yards in his last four games.
- Jackson's 72-yard pass and 72-yard run in the first quarter were tied for the second-longest plays of his career. He had a 73-yard run versus Samford in the 45-3 win last season.
- Jackson accounted for four touchdowns -- a 72-yard pass and touchdown runs of seven, 13 and 72 yards -- in the game's first quarter.
- The Pompano Beach, Fla., product recorded the seventh 100-yard rushing game of his career, which is tied for seventh all-time in school history. It was also his fourth-straight 100-yard game dating back to last season.
- With four rushing touchdowns this evening, Jackson has amassed 17 career touchdowns. Jackson also accounted for 13 touchdowns this season and 36 for his career, which only spans 14 games.
- Jackson holds the school record for career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback with 15, breaking Benny Russell's (1964-66) mark of 11.
- Jackson's first six completions were distributed to six different receivers.
- With 411 yards passing, Jackson surpassed his career-high of 307 yards in a loss at Florida State last season. It was the 17th 400-yard passing game in school history and the first since Teddy Bridgewater threw for 447 yards against Miami in 2013.
- In his last four games, Jackson has rushed for a total of 730 yards in 71 carries, an average of 10.2 yards per attempt.
- Jaylen Smith recorded a career-long 61-yard reception on a pass from Lamar Jackson in the first quarter – besting his previous high of 55 yards versus Clemson last season.
- James Quick's 72-yard reception in the first quarter was the third-longest of his career — recorded 74 versus FIU in 2014 and 73 yards versus Clemson in 2014.
- With four receptions for 108 yards, the Louisville native registered his fourth 100-yard receiving game.
- O'Hara booted a 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter — the first made field goal of his career. He added a 41-yard boot to cap the Cardinals' next drive.
- Making his third career start, Zykeisis Cannon recorded a career-high eight tackles.
- Bailey made his first career start at defensive tackle.
- Bailey registered his first full sack, after recording 0.5 sack versus NC State last season.
- Jaire Alexander recorded the first interception for the Cards this year and the second of his career, with the first coming versus Samford last season.
- Kelsey recorded a season-best eight tackles in the win.
- Williams tied a career-high with eight tackles. He also had eight last season versus Syracuse and Kentucky.
