Cards post three individual wins and have seven athletes receive all-conference honors
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Louisville track and field team captured three individual championships and had seven athletes receive All-ACC honors on the second day of competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships on Saturday.
Both the men (37.50 points) and women (31 points) are currently in third place in the standings through eight scored events.
"It's always exciting to watch our students pick up ACC event titles," said head coach Dale Cowper. "Damar (Robinson), Edwin (Kibichiy), and Emmonnie (Henderson) were excellent today! Each of them continue to represent our program at the highest level."
Emmonnie Henderson continued her dominance in the shot put as she won her second straight ACC Outdoor Championship event title as she hurled a throw of 16.55m/54-3.75. The two outdoor titles sandwich a shot put indoor title she received earlier this year.
Damar Robinson cleared the bar at 2.20m/7-2.50 to win the high jump. The reigning ACC Indoor Most Valuable Field Performer has won the high jump both in the indoor and outdoor seasons this year. Teammate Javen Reeves finished eighth by clearing the bar at 2.08m/6-9.75.
On the final event of the night, Edwin Kibichiy rose to the challenge and defended his 3000m steeplechase crown by finishing in 8:34.46 to strike gold for the second consecutive year in the ACC and third straight overall.
"Oliver Newport, Bre'Yana Wash, Isaac Bowling, and Claire Noser were also at their best today," said Cowper.
In the long jump, Oliver Newport jumped to a personal best of 7.78m/25-6.25 to finish third in the event, earning first team All-ACC honors. Bre'Yana Wash earned second team All-ACC honors with her fifth place finish with a mark of 6.15m/20-2.25 in the long jump.
Saturday's action also included the conclusion of the multi-events. In the heptathlon, Holly Hankenson won the 800m run en route to a fifth place finish in the heptathlon with 5222 points. Teammate Linda Mutter finished seventh with 5049 points. In the decathlon, Eric Fox wrapped up the events with 6979 points en route to a fourth place finish.
In the 3000m steeplechase, Claire Noser posted a personal best time of 10:38.86 to finish seventh in the event. Isaac Bowling finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 17.46m/57-3.5.
In her first postseason competition, freshman Halee Hudson threw a personal best mark of 41.03m/134-7 to finish seventh in the javelin.
Freshman Raven Grant qualified for the 100m finals by posting a time of 11.67 in the preliminaries. She will compete in both the 100m and 200m finals on Sunday evening.
Action concludes on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. with the men's triple jump, women's discus, and the women's high jump. Running events are slated to begin at 5 p.m. with the women's 4x100 relay.
