Women's Tennis Falls to No. 17-ranked Georgia Tech
April 08, 2016 | Women's Tennis
Elle Stokes wins her singles match.
The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 17-ranked Georgia Tech Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Â
The No. 13-ranked GT pair of Paige Hourigan and Kendal Woodard beat Sena Suswam and Ariana Rodriguez 6-1 at No. 1. But the Cards made the doubles point interesting when No. 3 UofL doubles pair Abbie Pahz and Olivia Boesing beat Megan Kurey and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeter 6-2. Tech clinched the point on a 6-4 win at No. 2 over Jessie Paul and Elle Stokes.
Â
"It's a matter of – we're losing a lot of deuce games. That's the mental state we're in right now," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "When it gets to a tight game, next point wins, we're just not winning enough of those games. It's definitely a mental thing. But the positive of it is that I think they're starting to understand that it's never been a skill or physical thing it's just a matter of being able to execute at the biggest moments. We played pretty well today, but I think there were 20 deuce games and we lost 18 of them. It's a little hard to overcome, but I think we're playing better tennis."
Â
The Cardinals earned their point when Elle Stokes outlasted Alex Anton-Ohlmeyer 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 at No. 4.
Â
UofL faces Syracuse at 11 a.m. on Sunday for the last home match of the season at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
