Women's Tennis To Face NC State in First Round of ACC Championships

Cards face Wolfpack at 10 a.m. Wednesday
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina holds the top seed for the 2016 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship, which begins on Wednesday, April 20 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina. The University of Louisville will face NC State at 10 a.m. on Wednesday.Â

The Tar Heels see their first tournament action on Friday, when they will take on the winner of Thursday's second-round match between No. 8 Wake Forest and No. 9 Virginia Tech. North Carolina will enter the championship in search of its seventh ACC title and first since 2011.

Wednesday's first-round action will begin with No. 10 NC State facing No. 15 Louisville at 10 a.m., No. 11 Notre Dame squaring off against No. 14 Pitt in another 10 a.m. match, and No. 12 Florida State taking on No. 13 Boston College at 1 p.m.

The Wake Forest-Virginia Tech second-round match opens the slate on Thursday at 10 a.m. No. 7 Syracuse will take on the winner of NC State-Louisville, while No. 6 Clemson will take on the winner of Notre Dame-Pitt in a pair of other 10 a.m. matches. No. 5 Virginia gets action at 1 p.m. against the winner of Florida State-Boston College.

Teams receiving double-byes to Friday's quarterfinal round along with North Carolina include No. 2 Miami No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Duke.

Action in the 2016 ACC Women's Tennis Championship will continue with a pair of 10 a.m. semifinal matches on Saturday and will conclude with Sunday's 10 a.m. championship match.

The Saturday semifinal match featuring the highest seeded team and Sunday's championship match will be streamed live by ESPN3. Former United States Davis Cup team captain Patrick McEnroe will serve as the lead announcer. McEnroe, who captained the U.S. Davis Cup championship team in 2007, will be joined by Shawn Kenney, a veteran announcer who has covered multiple sports on ESPN platforms, will work the ACC Tennis Championships for the second straight year. Stacey Slomka will handle sideline reports.
