Cardinals land in the Top 25 for the first time since 2011
LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The Louisville men's track and field team was ranked 24th in the preseason edition of the USTFCCCA Outdoor Team Rankings, the organization announced on Wednesday. It is the first time the men's team has been ranked in the Top 25 since Louisville finished the 2011 season ranked 25th.
"We're excited to transition into the outdoor season and look forward to building upon the preseason rankings," said head coach Dale Cowper. "I'm optimistic that the men can build upon their current position and the women's squad can certainly improve upon their preseason ranking."
The Cardinal men racked up a total of 86.68 points in the computer-based rankings. Meanwhile, the Louisville women are listed outside the top-25 at No. 60 with 31.80 points.
The point tally is based on 2015 outdoor performances from each team's top talent and top marks from the current outdoor season.
Last outdoor season, the men finished tied for 44th at the NCAA Outdoor Championship with five points. The women finished tied for 35th with six points, for the best finish in school history. The previous best finish was tied for 36th in 2010.
Louisville opened its outdoor season last week at the USF Bulls Invitational and will be back in action on Friday at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
