Cards fall 7-0 at No. 2 North Carolina
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team fell 7-0 to second-ranked North Carolina in an ACC matchup Friday afternoon at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
"North Carolina looks and plays like a team favored to win the national championship," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Their confidence and body language were good and they won a majority of the close games."
The Tar Heels opened the match by taking the doubles point. The Cards' freshman duo of George Hedley and Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff fell 6-0 to UNC's Ronnie Schneider at No. 2. The Cardinals answered at the three-spot where junior Sean Donohue and sophomore Courtney Lock teamed to beat Andrew Gores and Blaine Boyden 6-2. The first point of the match came down to the No.1 position where seniors Alex Gornet and Jeffrey Brown fell 6-2 to North Carolina's fourth-ranked Robert Kelly and Brett Clark.
The Tar Heels swept all six singles matches to complete the 7-0 victory.
Louisville (9-10, 0-5 ACC) returns to action on Sunday when the Cards travel to Blacksburg, Va., for another ACC matchup against No. 40 Virginia Tech.
