Hines-Allen Added to Wade Trophy Watch List
March 14, 2016 | Women's Basketball
Myisha Hines-Allen is one of five players from the ACC on the watch list.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville sophomore Myisha Hines-Allen has been added to the 2015-16 Wade Trophy Watch List and is one of 32 candidates for the award, the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association announced Monday.
The Wade Trophy is presented to the nation's most outstanding NCAA Division I women's basketball player each year – one who not only excels athletically, but also serves as a positive role model both on and off the court.
Hines-Allen, the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and an all-league first team selection, is pacing the Cardinals in scoring (17.5), rebounding (8.4), and field goal percentage (54.0). She has produced 11 of her career 12 double-doubles this season and scored at least 20 points in a game on 11 occasions.
The Montclair, N.J., native also is working on making her marks in the record books. She currently is tied with Shoni Schimmel (2013-14) for sixth for most field goals in a season at 228. Standing with 542 points this year, she needs just 10 more to pass Jazz Covington (2004-05) for 10th-most points in a single season at Louisville and is 56 shy of becoming the school's 26th 1,000-point scorer.
A three-time ACC Player of the Week, she has pushed her name into the top 10 in multiple ACC categories: third in scoring, third in rebounding, seventh in field goal percentage, eighth in free throw percentage (.794), second in defensive rebounds (5.4), and tied for fifth in offensive rebounds (3.0).
The acclaimed Wade Watch list, from which the Wade Trophy recipient is chosen, consists of players selected on the basis of game and season statistics, leadership, character, overall playing ability and the positive impact on her respective team.
The WBCA will officially announce The Wade Trophy winner during the WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four in Indianapolis.
The Wade Trophy, named after the late, legendary head coach Margaret Wade, a three-time national champion at Delta State, debuted in 1978 as the first women's national player of the year award in college basketball.
