
No. 8 Women’s Basketball Faces Vanderbilt in Mid-Week Matchup

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 8 University of Louisville women's basketball team, in a mid-week matchup, faces Vanderbilt on Wednesday in Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tenn., at 8 p.m. ET.
The Dec. 21 game will be broadcast on SEC Network+, with Kevin Ingram (play-by-play) and Jessica Holman (analyst) calling the action. Louisville's radio broadcast can be heard on WKJK 1080 AM, featuring Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst).
The Cardinals (11-2) won their fifth-consecutive game, third straight by at least 20 points, with an 89-47 rout of Evansville on Sunday. Louisville shot 50.0 percent from the field, held a 50-35 rebounding advantage, and forced 20 turnovers for 26 points. The Cardinals led the Purple Aces 50-21 at the half.
Kylee Shook produced season highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. The freshman shot 8 of 10 from the field to go with four blocks, achieving the totals in 17 minutes. Asia Durr had 15 points, Mariya Moore added 12, and Briahanna Jackson finished with 11 points.
Through 13 games, Durr is pacing the Cardinals in scoring at 17.4 points per game. She is second in the country with 46 3-pointers, connecting at a 43.8 percent rate. Hines-Allen and Moore each are averaging 11.2 points, with Hines-Allen boasting 8.0 rebounds per game. Jackson leads the team in both assists (63) and steals (27).
Collectively, Louisville ranks 10th nationally in assists per game (19.2), 17th in turnovers forced (22.2), 19th in scoring margin (plus-20.9), and 30th in scoring offense (79.1).
Vanderbilt (10-1) defeated Tennessee Tech 89-57 on Sunday for the Commodores' eighth-consecutive victory. Vanderbilt shot 50.0 percent and went 18 of 21 from the free throw line. The Commodores, who are receiving votes in the latest AP poll, scored 17 second-chance points and 26 points off 20 Golden Eagles turnovers. The turning point of the game, arguably, came when Vanderbilt outscored Tennessee Tech 28-6 in the second quarter.
Christa Reed scored a team-high 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting, the only starter in double figures. Erin Whalen came off the bench and totaled 23 points - 8 of 8 from the charity stripe - and 11 rebounds, despite turning over the ball seven times. Fellow reserve Lealea Carter had 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Through 11 games, Reed is pacing the team with 12.7 points. Rachel Bell (12.1) and Rebekah Dahlman (11.1) also are averaging double figures, with Dahlman shooting a remarkable 91.7 percent from the line (33 of 36) and 55.6 percent from 3-point range (15 of 27). Cierra Walker boasts a team-high 41 assists.
Collectively, Vanderbilt ranks seventh in the country in 3-point field goal percentage (.417) and ninth in free throws made (182) and free throw percentage (.784).
SERIES HISTORY – Vanderbilt vs. Louisville
Vanderbilt leads Louisville 8-4 in the all-time series, boasting a 4-1 advantage in Nashville. The Cardinals have won two of the last four meetings.
Last time the two teams played, Louisville earned an 81-62 decision on March 20, 2011, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cardinals shot 60 percent from the field, held a 35-19 advantage on the glass, and outscored the Commodores 41-26 in the first half.
Monique Reid led all scorers with 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting, also tallying six rebounds and five assists. Shoni Schimmel and Tia Gibbs each registered 19 points, and Keshia Hines finished with 16 points and nine rebounds.
