The Cardinals and Cougars play on Friday in the KFC Yum! Center at 7 p.m.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 8-ranked University of Louisville women's basketball team plays host to College of Charleston on Friday in the KFC Yum! Center at 7 p.m.
The Dec. 16 game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra. Louisville's radio broadcast can be heard on WKRD 790 AM, featuring Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst).
Fans are encouraged to wear their ugly sweaters to the game. Also, prior to the matchup, Santa will be available to take pictures in the main concourse with fans and giving out candy canes, while Christmas carolers will be spreading the holiday cheer around the arena.
Louisville (9-2) will be playing its third game in six days. The Cardinals posted an 83-30 victory over South Dakota State on Wednesday, the 17th-largest victory in school history. Louisville shot 50.7 percent from the floor, while limiting South Dakota State to 19.6 percent. The Jackrabbits also turned the ball over 30 times that led to 38 points for the Cardinals.
Jazmine Jones had a game- and season-high 15 points off the bench, hitting 6-of-8 shots. Sydney Zambrotta and Myisha Hines-Allen each added 10 points. Cortnee Walton had nine rebounds, and Briahanna Jackson collected six assists.
On the season, Asia Durr is leading Louisville in scoring at 17.4 points per game, with a team-high 40 3s that ranks third nationally. Hines-Allen (11.8) and Mariya Moore (11.0) also are averaging double figures, with Hines-Allen and Walton each producing 7.8 rebounds per game.
Collectively, Louisville is outscoring its opponents 77.5-59.2 (plus-18.4) this year, shooting 45.7 percent. The Cardinals rank 10th nationally with 19.3 assists per game and boast a plus-8.3 turnover margin.
College of Charleston (2-5), which has lost four of its last five games, fell 79-63 to Houston last time out. Charleston shot 50.9 percent from the field and also outrebounded Houston 38-28, but turned the ball over 24 times that translated into 25 points and sent Houston to the line 21 times, where it converted 16 free throws. Charleston also received just seven points from its bench.
Tanisha Brown had a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Breanna Bolden added 14 points, seven rebounds, and three steals, and Dajah Logan contributed 13 points and nine boards.
Through seven games, Bolden leads the program in scoring (15.6) and has a team-leading 28 steals. Brown is producing 14.4 points, second most on the team, while carrying a 9.4 rebounding average. Shiclasia Brown, who recently earned a starting role, boasts a team-leading 22 assists.
Collectively, College of Charleston is shooting 38.1 percent from the field, dishing out 13.1 assists per game, and owns a minus-2.4 turnover margin. Notably, the Cougars are being outscored 121-97 in the fourth quarter.
SERIES HISTORY – College of Charleston vs. Louisville
Louisville and College of Charleston have played once before Friday's meeting, with the Cardinals earning a 71-67 victory last year on the road.
Louisville, in addition to outscoring College of Charleston 20-10 in the third period, shot 50.9 percent from the floor and held a 40-20 advantage on the glass.
Myisha Hines-Allen had a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds in the victory, while Mariya Moore put together 15 points and 12 assists. Briahanna Jackson added 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Breanna Bolden totaled 15 points for the Cougars.
