
No. 8 Women’s Basketball Takes on Western Kentucky on Sunday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 8 University of Louisville women's basketball team welcomes its second in-state foe in as many games, when it plays host to Western Kentucky on Sunday in the KFC Yum! Center.
The Dec. 11 game begins at 2 p.m. on ACC Network Extra. Louisville's radio broadcast can be heard on WKRD 790 AM, featuring Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst).
The Cardinals (7-2) are in the midst of a six-game homestand, recently defeating No. 17 Kentucky 69-67 in overtime on Dec. 4. It was Louisville's third-consecutive top-25 opponent. Louisville forced 19 turnovers for 18 points and held a 49-40 edge the glass, using 21 offensive rebounds for 17 second-chance points.
Myisha Hines-Allen scored a season-best 26 points, Asia Durr added 15, and both Cortnee Walton and Briahanna Jackson collected 10 rebounds in the victory.
Durr continues to pace the Cardinals on offense, scoring 18.4 points per game and shooting 45.3 percent from the field. She has connected on 35 3-pointers, fifth most in the country. Mariya Moore is contributing 12.3 points, and Hines-Allen is the team's only other double-digit scorer at 11.6 points to go with 8.0 rebounds.
Jackson has been stellar as of late for the Cardinals. The redshirt senior, who is averaging 8.4 points, leads the team in assists (40) and steals (23). In the last two games, she has 16 assists, no turnovers, and eight steals. Nationally, the Tampa, Fla., native ranks assist-turnover ratio at 3.64.
Western Kentucky (5-3) earned its second-consecutive victory after defeating Austin Peay 85-65 on the road on Dec. 3. The Hilltoppers shot 52.4 percent from the field, connecting on eight 3-pointers in the victory. Western Kentucky turned over the ball 11 times, while forcing 19 turnovers. Austin Peay logged just two second-chance points on seven offensive rebounds.
Tashia Brown scored a game-best 18 points on 9-of-15 shooting, while Ivy Brown compiled a double-double of 10 points and 15 rebounds. Kendall Noble added 12 points, and Micah Jones and Jaycee Coe each recorded 11 points.
Tashia is pacing the team in scoring (15.8), while Noble is producing 14.6 points and has a team-leading 16 steals. Ivy is averaging nearly a double-double of 13.9 points and 9.3 rebounds. Jones has dished out a team-high 32 assists.
Collectively, Western Kentucky is outscoring its opponents by 12.3 points, while holding foes to 29.4 percent from 3-point range. The team is averaging 17.0 made free throws per game, shooting 80.0 percent from the charity stripe.
SERIES HISTORY – Western Kentucky vs. Louisville
Western Kentucky leads the all-time series 20-15, but Louisville has won six of the last eight meetings.
Western Kentucky won last year's tilt, earning a 71-69 victory in Bowling Green on Nov. 21, 2015. The Cardinals pulled ahead 68-67 when Briahanna Jackson completed a three-point play with 43 seconds left in regulation. A layup by Kayla Smith with 34 seconds remaining put the Hilltoppers ahead for good.
Jackson finished with a game-high 24 points, Mariya Moore had 13 points, and Cortnee Walton collected 13 rebounds - 10 on the offensive end. Both teams struggled from the free throw line: Louisville hit 65.0 percent (13 of 20) of its shots and Western Kentucky scored on 52.6 percent (10 of 19) of its opportunities.
The last time Western Kentucky visited Louisville, Bria Smith had a triple-double of 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, and the Cardinals secured an 89-67 victory on Nov. 25, 2014. Myisha Hines-Allen had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Louisville, which shot 52.1 percent from the floor and had 24 assists.
