Cards are led by Janelle Jenkins' 14 kills.
Senior Janelle Jenkins had 14 kills and a block to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over Syracuse in ACC volleyball action Wednesday night at the KFC Yum! Center.
Â
UofL (11-18, 6-13 in the ACC) won 25-21, 25-13, 20-25, 25-10, hitting .279 with six blocks, five aces and 63 kills. Syracuse (7-22, 6-13 in the ACC) hit .176 with 36 kills and 11 blocks. The Cards got 13 kills from both Morgan Miller and Melanie McHenry. Clark added five blocks and Megan Sloan came off the bench to tally nine kills. Libero Molly Sauer, who recorded her 1,000th career dig tonight, had a match-high 18 digs. Syracuse was led by Anastasiya Gorelina's 12 kills and five blocks.
Â
"Great to see Morgan Miller put up some great numbers. She can manage the ball so well with a great touch and just missed a triple double," said UofL head coach Anne Kordes. "It was a good win at home especially in consideration that it is our seniors last two home games. I like that Megan Sloan came off the bench and gave us a lift too."
Â
The Cards used .308 hitting in the first set and balanced attack with Melanie McHenry, Janelle Jenkins and Tess Clark each getting five kills apiece as Louisville notched the 25-21 win.Â
Â
In the second set, UofL had an 8-0 run to go up 13-4 powered by aggressive serving by Gabbie Wiley. The Orange stayed out of system and hit just .222 to UofL's .400 before falling 25-13 to give the Cards a 2-0 set lead going into the break.
Â
Louisville jumped out to an early lead at 4-1 in the third set, but the Orange tied at eight and then built a lead of four at 17-13 on two straight UofL hitting errors. Louisville could get no closer as the Orange won 25-20, out-hitting Louisville .355 to .114 and had five blocks.
Â
In the final set, Louisville popped out to 6-0 lead and eventually spread the lead to 20-9 and then went on a 5-1 run to notch the 25-10 win.
Â
The Cards stay home this Friday, when they face Boston College for the last home match at 7 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center.
