Cards post 12 wins on day one of ITA Ohio Valley Regional
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Louisville's Nicolas Rouanet, Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn advanced to the singles round of 32 to help the Cardinals' men's tennis team tally 12 wins on the first day of the 2016 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Ohio Valley Regional Championship Presented by Oracle Thursday.
"All four of our doubles teams advanced in the Ohio Valley Regional Championships today," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "With the best players from two dozen teams here, it is a good accomplishment. Chris Kougoucheff, Nicolas Rouanet and Parker Wynn won their first two rounds of singles as well. To go 3-0 in this tournament is not an easy task. It was nice to see Chris upset the #24 seed in singles and Nicolas and Ciro upset the #5 seed in doubles."
Â
The Cardinals went undefeated in their opening rounds of doubles. The 16th-seeded duo of senior Sean Donohue and sophomore George Hedley defeated Tennessee Tech's Guille Nicolas and Jorge Alfonzo 8-6. Â
Wynn also tallied a pair of straight-set victories to go 4-0 on the day. The 25-seeded player in the tournament beat Butler's Spencer Lang 6-2, 6-1 and Austin Peay's Manuel Montenegro 6-2, 6-1.
Â
Lampasas captured a first round win, defeating IUPUI's Matt Moe 6-0, 6-2, but fell 7-5, 6-1 to East Tennessee State's David Biosca in the second round. Lancaster beat Northern Kentucky's Andrew Niehaus 6-2, 6-4, but lost in the second round to Belmont's Cedric Dujaquier 6-2, 0-6, 6-2.
