Brandon Lancaster wins 'A' division, Santiago Salazar claims 'B' division
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville's Brandon Lancaster and Santiago Salazar won their respective singles divisions to lead the Cardinals on the final day of the Louisville Fall Invitational Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Â
"I am happy for Brandon and Santiago," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "For Brandon to win the 'A' Division singles he joins other UofL Tennis greats like Michael Lippens, Chris Simich, Robert Rotaru, Alejandro Calligari, Slavko Radman and Jakob Gustafsson. Brandon played consistently the entire tournament singles-wise. He showed improvement in managing his emotions and backhand. Santi also had a great tournament winning the B Division. He had a couple of long grueling matches and won the final while cramping at the end. He has a big heart. He also transitioned and volleyed better than he ever has."
Â

Lancaster, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., picked up two wins on the day, starting with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Memphis' Matt Story in the 'A' semifinals. He went on to beat Lipscomb's Rob Mitchell 6-1, 7-5 to cap a 4-0 singles run in the tournament.
Â
Salazar also registered two wins in the 'B' singles division. In the semifinals, the redshirt junior from Medellin, Colombia rebounded from a 6-3 first set loss to Michigan's Conor Johnston to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3 to reach the finals where he gutted out a 7-6(4), 7-5 win over Illinois State's Dylan Steffens for his fourth straight singles win in the tournament.

Prior to competing in singles, Salazar teamed with sophomore Michael Quang (Forest Hills, Md.) to beat Lipscomb's Rob Mitchell and Daniel Cardenas in the consolation finals of the 'B' doubles flight.
Â
In other singles action, the Cardinals picked up two wins in the 'Red' Division as junior Ciro Lampasas (Houston, Texas) defeated Xavier's Matt Bishop 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 and Quang posted a 6-2, 7-6(6) decision against Wright State's Jonas Brezing.
Â
Louisville returns to action next weekend when the Cardinals travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Ohio Valley Regionals.
