Cards pick up seven wins on day one
The University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up seven wins on the opening day of the Louisville Fall Invitational Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Â
"Santiago Salazar won both of singles matches in the B division as well as teaming up with Michael Quang for a nice win against a good doubles team from Dayton," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Brandon Lancaster was dominating in the Singles 'A' Division today. He had a couple of solid singles wins last week at Notre Dame and is starting to build momentum. Ciro Lampasas has a nice win against the No. 1 singles player from Illinois State. They all showed some good tennis and I am expecting more of it tomorrow."
Â
Santiago Salazar (Medellin, Colombia) led the way with three wins on the day. The redshirt junior teamed with sophomore Michael Quang (Forest Hills, Md.) in to beat Dayton's Simon Jayaram and Lorenzo Rollhauser 8-4 in a 'B' Flight consolation match. He went on to pick up a pair of singles victories, starting with a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Cumberland's Alejandro Reyes and following with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Illinois State's Andreas Boers.
Â
Brandon Lancaster (Louisville, Ky.) also went undefeated in singles on the day. The sophomore defeated Austin Peay's Almantas Ozelis 6-4, 6-1 in his first round match and proceeded to beat Dayton's Zach Berry 6-3, 6-3 in the 'A' Flight.
Â
Junior Ciro Lampasas (Houston, Texas) posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Illinois State's Urh Krajnc Domiter in his first round match, but fell 6-3, 6-4 to Lipscomb's Rob Mitchell.
Â
In Flight 'B,' Quang beat Xavier's Gabriel Araujo 7-6(5), 6-2, but suffered a 6-1, 6-2 second round setback against Illinois State's Dylan Steffens in the second round.
