Cards win 4-3 in tight match.

The University of Louisville women's tennis team took the doubles point and then battled back in singles for the 4-3 win over Xavier Sunday evening at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

"I am extremely happy with being able to beat a quality team today," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "They showed enjoyment in competing in a stressful situation. I have been reminding them that competition is fun not something to be afraid of. Today, they showed it. Olivia Boesing and Jessie Paul were MVPs today. They played very well when we needed them the most. Overall, it was a good team win."

In doubles, Olivia Boesing and Sena Suswam defeated Alex Brinker and Cristina Di Lorenzo 6-1 at No. 2. Elle Stokes and Ariana Rodriguez beat MSU's Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson 6-4 to clinch the doubles point.

Xavier bounced back early in singles competition, with wins at No. 1 and 2. UofL's Olivia Boesing notched the first single point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 over Lauren Ghidotti. Jessie Paul gave UofL the lead with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 4 over Alex Brinker. Ariana Rodriguez clinched the match with a7-5, 6-4 win at No. 6.

The Cards return to action next Sunday, when they host Middle Tennessee at 11 and Murray State at 4 p.m. in the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
