Women's Tennis Beats Northern Kentucky

Cards move to 3-0
The University of Louisville women's tennis team took the doubles point and won all six singles matches to earn a 7-0 win over Northern Kentucky at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon.
"Doubles we came out tight and it showed they almost stole that doubles point from us," said UofL head coach Mark Beckham. "The one thing that I do like is I got on them a bit between the singles and doubles and they responded, they played much better in singles. I like the way Sena Suswam played, she hasn't been playing the way I know she is capable of. She came out and played extremely well today, kind of what I expect from her. Ariana Rodriguez, same thing. Pretty much all the way across the board they played the way I expect them to play. This was kind of good to see because I have not seen it in the first two matches previously. I do hope that we don't have to be scared by almost losing a doubles point into playing into their level of tennis. Once we get it to where its automatic and we just play that way I think we actually can be a pretty dangerous team and going to beat some pretty good teams."
In doubles, the No. 2 doubles team of Abbie Pahz and Olivia Boesing defeated Hailey Shanahan and Nicole Soutar 6-1. The No. 3 doubles team of Jessie Paul and Elle Stokes fell to Sierra Nellessen and Sydney Power 6-4. The Cardinals clinched the doubles point when the No. 54 ranked duo of Sena Suswam and Ariana Rodriguez defeated Klara Skopac and Danielle Donahue 7-6 (7-4).
Olivia Boesing put UofL up 2-0 by cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Nicole Soutar at No. 5 singles. Shortly after Ariana Rodriguez defeated Sierra Nellessen 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6. Sena Suswam gave the Cardinals the clinching point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Klara Skopac at the No. 1 spot. The Cards got another point with Jessie Paul winning at No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Hailey Shanahan. Abbie Pahz won her match at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sydney Power. Elle Stokes gave the Cardinals the sweep with 0-6, 6-4, 11-9 victory at No. 2.
The Cardinals will be back in action Sunday, January 31 when they host Xavier at 10:30 before facing Morehead State at 3:30 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
