Petrino Spends Whirlwind Day at ESPN
July 27, 2015 | Football
BRISTOL, Conn. - University of Louisville head football coach Bobby Petrino is in continuous football mode.
The sixth-year head coach of the Cardinals is focused on what he hopes will be another winning season after guiding the Cardinals to a 9-4 record last year in his homecoming to the Derby City.
However, before gearing up for the start of practice on Aug. 6, Petrino spent the day talking about Louisville football to a captive audience at ESPN.
Petrino's quick tour of ESPN was part of the ACC's annual two-day parade of coaches, who visited the network's campus today, with a group of seven more coaches visiting on Tuesday.
As has been typical every time Petrino answers questions, the talk focused on the on-going competition at the quarterback position. The Cardinals return three signal-callers, who each started games last season.
Petrino and the six other ACC coaches in Bristol promoted their programs and talked about the issues surrounding college football.
Starting the day on the set of SportsCenter, Petrino discussed a number of topics with Matt Barrie, especially his popular return to Louisville.
"It was awesome," Petrino said. "The welcome that we had, starting with the first game of the year versus Miami, was amazing for us. It's just something for us to build upon this year."
Petrino also touched on the 2015 season opener versus Auburn and the importance of beginning the season with a national-caliber opponent.
"I really like it," Petrino said of the opening game. "It helps us in the off-season. It helps us in the winter program when we have to get up early and it's cold out. It helped us in spring ball, and all summer long. To open against an opponent like Auburn, in a big game down in Atlanta, is exciting for our fans."
After his appearance on the main stage, Petrino spent time with ESPN bloggers, video personnel, and radio personalties Freddie Coleman and the Paul Finnebaum Show.
