No. 14 Lacrosse Falls to No. 9 Syracuse 16-8 on Thursday Afternoon

The No. 14 University of Louisville lacrosse team fell 16-8 to No. 9 Syracuse on Thursday afternoon at the U of L Lacrosse Stadium. The Cardinals fall to 9-6 on the year and 1-5 in ACC play. The Orange improve to 10-6 on the season and 3-4 in league play.
The Orange opened up scoring to take a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play. The Cardinals responded with a goal from Hannah Koloski on a free position shot. Syracuse then went on a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 lead with 18 minutes left in the first half.
Louisville then went on a 3-0 run of their own to tie the game. Kelli Gerding kicked of the run, scoring on a free position shot. Then Carissa Corbett found Gerding to get within one. In the eighth minute, Koloski found Anna Kopecka for the equalizer.
Syracuse responded to score three straight goals to end the half. The Orange finished the first half with a 16-11 shot advantage. Kelsey Richardson finished with six saves while Ashley Peacock finished with eight.
The Orange scored three straight goals to start the second half, taking an 11-4 lead. Cortnee Daley broke the Louisville scoring drought, connecting on a free position shot. Syracuse responded with a 3-0 scoring run to take a 14-5 lead.
Koloski scored with just over 15 minutes remaining to cut the Syracuse lead to 14-6. Four minutes later, Kopecka found Daley to cut the lead to 14-7. The Orange then went on a 2-0 run to take a 16-7 lead with four minutes remaining. One minute later, Kopecka and Daley connected again to cut the lead to eight.
Syracuse finished the game with a 38-24 shot advantage and an 18-8 advantage on the draw. Richardson finished the game with 11 saves, Peacock finished with 10 saves while freshman Brittany Read finished with a career-high nine saves.
Daley led the Cardinals with three goals while Koloski and Gerding each finished with two goals. Kopecka finished with two assists. Kaylin Morissette led the team with five draw controls.
The Cards will return to action on Sunday, April 19 when they travel to Notre Dame for a noon game to wrap up the regular season.
