
Cardinals Use Strong Second Half to Defeat Marist

ESTERO, Fla. (AP) – Louisville has been a second-half team in each of its first two games this season.
Friday wasn't any different for the Cardinals, but Louisville's dominance on offense proved to be the key to its first victory of the season.
Myisha Hines-Allen came off the bench to score 12 of her game-high 18 points in the final 20 minutes, and No. 22 Louisville closed the contest on a 16-3 run for a 65-53 victory over Marist in the Gulf Coast Showcase on Friday.
Louisville (1-2), which advances to play the winner of Purdue and LSU on Saturday, scored 28 points in the paint in the final two periods and collected nine steals in that span.
A layup by Tori Jarosz gave Marist a 50-49 lead with 6:01 to play, but Arica Carter had a pair of layups around a Briahanna Jackson 3-pointer to put the Cardinals up 56-50. Following another Jarosz layup, Cortnee Walton had a layup, Mariya Moore converted a 3-point play and Hines-Allen followed with a 3-pointer to break it open.
The Red Foxes had seven turnovers after taking their last lead.
Jackson had 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Moore 11 points for Louisville (1-2), which shot 37 percent in the first half and trailed 32-28.
Jarosz had 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks for Marist (0-5). Allie Clement added 12 points.
