
Men's Cross Country Prepares for NCAA Championship on Saturday

The Field: Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large. Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their regions.

The University of Louisville men's cross country team is set to compete in the NCAA Championship at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, on Saturday, Nov. 21. This is the first team appearance by the Cardinals since the 2010 season.Â

The women's race will begin at noon Eastern Time, followed by the men's race at approximately 1 p.m. Eastern Time. A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast from noon Eastern Time until the conclusion of the awards ceremony, Saturday, November 21, on NCAA.com.
The Louisville men have posted five top-10 finishes including three team, including a school history win at the NCAA Southeast Regional last week. Four Cardinals finished in the top 20 with junior Edwin Kibichiy leading the Cardinals with a third place finish. Kibichiy clocked a career best time of 29:14.6. Senior Ernest Kibet finished sixth with a time of 29:26.3, just missing his personal best time.  Newcomer Calvin Chemoiywo clocked a personal best time of 29:48.5 to finish 13th.Â

Senior Japhet Kipkoech gave the Cardinals four runners in the Top 20. He finished 19th with a personal best time of 29:57.9.  Newcomer George Yator was the final Louisville runner to score. Yator finished 36th in his first race of the season with a time of 30:37.8.  Matt Stephenson finished 111th with a time of 32:05.1 while freshman Daniel Fleace finished at 144th with a time of 32:47.2.
