Louisville will play its second of four straight in the KFC Yum! Center to start the season as the Cardinals face Hartford on Tuesday in their first game of the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational, a five-team, round-robin event.
Louisville played well at both ends of the court in its season-opening 86-45 victory over Samford, shooting 53.6 percent from the field while limiting the Bulldogs to 21 percent accuracy and collecting nine steals and nine blocked shots.
Damion Lee and Donovan Mitchell currently lead the Cardinals in scoring with 14.0 points per game. Quentin Snider ranks third on the team in scoring with 12.0 points per game and Chinanu Onuaku rounds out the double figure scorers with 11.0 points per game. Mangok Mathiang leads the team on the boards with 7.0 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Cardinals are shooting 53.6 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from behind the arc. They are averaging 46.0 rebounds and 19.0 assists per game.
Hartford opened its season with a 92-83 double overtime victory at Central Connecticut on Nov. 13 before falling 85-68 at Saint Louis on Nov. 15. Hartford -- which posted a 14-16 record last season and returns two starters -- are picked to finish sixth in the America East Conference.
The Hawks have four players averaging double figures over the last three games. Justin Graham and John Carroll lead the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game. Pancake Thomas ranks third with 12.0 points per game and Taylor Dyson rounds out the top scorers with 11.0 points per game.
Louisville has won its two previous meetings against Hartford: 104-69 on Nov. 17, 2007 in Freedom Hall as the Cardinals set a school record with 22 three-point goals in the game and Terrence Williams produced one of four triple-doubles in UofL history with 14 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds; and 87-48 on Nov. 19, 2013 in the Hall of Fame Tipoff in Louisville as the Cardinals totaled 16 steals and forced 25 turnovers with Montrezl Harrell scoring 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds.
