Louisville practiced for roughly two-and-a-half hours in Cardinals Arena.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Basketball season has arrived.
The University of Louisville women's basketball team held its first practice for the 2015-16 campaign on Wednesday afternoon in Cardinal Arena, taking part in a host of activities for approximately two-and-a-half hours.
Louisville has a different look than to what it's accustomed. All-America starters Mariya Moore and Myisha Hines-Allen headline a team that boasts just four returning letterwinners, while more than half of the team has yet to compete in its first collegiate game.
The Cardinals, who reached the 20-win plateau for the fifth-consecutive season, boast the nation's No. 1 recruiting class that is comprised of five freshmen: Taja Cole, Erin DeGrate, Asia Durr, Sam Fuehring, and Brianna Jones.
Louisville, which also regains the services of two of its frontcourt players in Cortnee Walton and Sydney Brackemyre, worked on offensive and defensive sets over the course of the practice. The team, among the many drills, worked on its press break and defensive traps along with shooting and dribbling drills.
“I think we have a lot of talent, and if we can just work hard and put all the pieces together and work together as a whole, we can be pretty good,” Moore said.
Hines-Allen echoed those sentiments.
“I'm excited for the season,” Hines-Allen said. “Coach Walz said we have 25 practices until our first game, and I'm confident that we're going to do well, because everyone wants to learn and to win.”
The team opens its 2015-16 campaign on Nov. 15 at home against California in the KFC Yum! Center. Season ticket information can be found on GoCards.com.
