Ninth annual event at G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center featured seven races along Ohio River
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville rowing team officially opened the fall with Saturday's ninth annual Red & Black Regatta at the G. Garvin Brown III Rowing Center at Waterfront Park. The exhibition scrimmage event provided a great opportunity for the community to see the sport of rowing up close.
The entertaining regatta featured seven short races pairing two groups against each other on the Ohio River. The final race of the day included an alumni four crew with Amelia Motsch, Amy Van Syoc, Jami Montesano, Amelia (Buhts) Wiggins and Marissa Thalen.
"This was a great day for the families of the athletes to see what their rower does on a daily basis, as well as an opportunity for staff and supporters to see what they have helped to build," said Louisville head coach Derek Copeland. "Although it was a bit of a gloomy day, it was a wonderful chance to showcase our families -- our Cardinal family and our individual families. We¹d like to thank graduate assistant coach Claire-Louise Bode for a perfectly organized event. We look forward to seeing everyone back for nest year¹s event."
The Red & Black Regatta also featured a welcome from Copeland as well as introductions of the Cardinals rowers and staff and recognition of Louisville's success from the 2014-15 season. A cookout followed the racing.
Up next, the Cardinals will continue their fall racing schedule at the Head of the Eagle regatta on Oct. 31 in Indianapolis, Ind.
