SERIES
- Louisville improves to 3-0 in its series with Wake Forest, having previously beaten the Demon Deacons last season and in the 2007 FedEx Orange Bowl.
TEAM
- Louisville captains for Friday's game were seniors James Burgess, Aaron Epps, Brandon Radcliff, Sheldon Rankins and junior Keith Kelsey.
- Louisville won the toss and elected to defer. Wake Forest received the opening kick.
- Louisville improved to 44-4 under head coach Bobby Petrino when scoring at least 30 points. The Cardinals improved to 50-5 under Petrino when leading after three quarters.
- Petrino improved his career coaching record to 95-38 (.714) following the victory. His 54-17 mark in his sixth season at Louisville ties Howard Schnellenberger for the second-most coaching victories at UofL (Frank Camp won 118 games from 1946-68). Petrino is 16-6 in games played in October under Petrino.
OFFENSE
- WR Jamari Staples had career highs in receptions and yards with 10 catches for 133 yards.  He is the Cardinals' first receiver with double-digit catches since Eli Rogers caught 10 passes against UCF on Oct. 18, 2013.  His 14-yard touchdown in the second quarter was his first TD as a Cardinal. He added a 22-yard TD reception with 22 seconds remaining in the first half.
- John Wallace's 39-yard, third quarter field goal was the 60th of his career, tying the career school record shared by Art Carmody (2004-07). His 37-yard field goal in the second quarter provided the Cardinals' first points of the game.
- Reggie Bonafon made his first start as a running back for the Cardinals. WR Javonte Bagley gained his first career start. Fourteen different players have started for the Cardinals' offense this season.
- Freshman QB Lamar Jackson improved to 4-2 as a starter while connecting on 19-of-26 passes for 207 yards and two touchdowns. In his last five starts, Jackson has completed 79-of-135 passes for 1,059 yards and five touchdowns. He was 6-of-8 for 89 yards on third down tonight.
- RB Jeremy Smith's 22-yard run in the fourth quarter was the second-longest of his career. He finished with a season-best 58 yards on three carries.
- WR Alphonso Carter made his first career appearance for the Cardinals on the punt receiving team after missing the first seven games with a hamstring injury.
- Wake Forest's safety after sacking Lamar Jackson was the first time an opponent scored a safety against the Cardinals since it occurred in a 36-9 victory over Miami on Dec. 28, 2013 in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
DEFENSE
- The Cardinals had a season-best four interceptions, all in the second half by four different players (UofL had three picks vs. Auburn and Samford). Freshman safety Dee Smith had his first career interception in the third quarter, the Cardinals' first pick in three games. Louisville had an interception in 17 consecutive games prior to the recent stretch. UofL has 13 interceptions this season.
- Chucky Williams and Trumaine Washington each had an interception, the team-leading third interception for both players. Shaq Wiggins grabbed his second interception of the season.
- With three sacks tonight, Trevon Young has six sacks in his last two games (also three vs. Boston College) and eight in his last three games. His third sack caused a fumble with under two minutes remaining. He had a career-best 3.5 tackles for loss.
- The Cardinals' defense had four sacks on the night. Louisville had eight sacks from five different players against Boston College last week.
- Louisville limited Wake Forest to 3-of-16 on third down conversions. The Cardinals held Boston College to 1-of-14 on third downs last week.
- A total of 136 of Wake Forest's 182 yards in the first half came on its two touchdown passes of 58 and 78 yards.
- Louisville limited Wake Forest to just 40 yards rushing. In its last two games, the Cardinals have allowed a combined 26 yards on the ground (-14 vs. Boston College last week).
- Six of punter Josh Appleby's eight punts were inside the 20 yard line, with three of them booted over 50 yards (44.4 average).
- Devonte Fields had a team-high and career-best eight tackles tonight, including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
