Men's Cross Country Finishes Third and the Women Finish 11th at the Greater Louisville Classic

Edwin Kibichiy led the men with a second place finish
LOUISVILLE, KY. – The University of Louisville men's cross country team finished third and the women finished 11th at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
"Our men's team took a big step forward today with a great effort from the front five," said head coach Dale Cowper. "We were able to pick up wins against three highly ranked teams today."
Junior Edwin Kibichiy led the Cardinals with a second place finish. Kibichiy clocked a season best time of 23:55.21. Senior Japhet Kipkoech continues to impress in his senior season. Kipkoech finished fifth with a personal best time of 23:57.24. Ernest Kibet finished 10th for the Cardinals with a season best time of 24:14.24.
Newcomer Calvin Chemoiywo finished 17th with a season best time of 24:23.35. Matt Stephenson also clocked a personal best time of 24:48.47 to finish 52nd. Freshman Daniel Fleace finished with a season best time of 25:40.63. Kyle Covert finished with a time of 26:32.14.
"Our women's team competed hard and must continue to tighten the gap between our first and fifth runner," said Cowper. "It was good to see Benadate, Bailey and Kelsey come out and take a good step forward after missing the Vanderbilt race two weeks ago."
Senior Benadate Cheruiyot led the women with a season best time of 17:34.40 to finish 35th. Sophomore Mia Ross finished 68th with a personal best time of 17:53.35. Claire Noser also finished with a personal best time of 17:57.03 to finish 74th.
Freshman Aurilla Wilson clocked a season best time of 18:05.82 to finish 95th. Sophomore Bailey Davis ran a personal best time of 18:22.66. Kelsey Cramsey ran a season best time of 18:31.47 while Leah Kiyohara finished with a time of 18:32.78. Alex Bunch clocked a personal best time of 18:33.21. Freshman Hannah Herd finished with time of 18:38.08 and Abigail Wright finished with a time of 18:42.60.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Oct. 17 as they host the Pre-Nationals at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
