LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf team is tied for fourth in the standings after the first day of competition at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The Cardinals compiled a 2-over-par 290 through 18 holes of play despite a slow start on the front nine and trail the overall leader Campbell by four strokes. All teams return to the Turtle Point Golf Course for the second round on Monday at 8:30 a.m. ET, teeing off on hole No. 1.
Seniors Laura Restrepo and Katie Mitchell carried Louisville on Sunday, and both are tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard after carding a 1-under-par 71. Both finished their first nine holes at 1-under-par and capped the day with three birdies apiece. It is Restrepo's third round even or below par this year and the fourth for Mitchell.
Shannon Gramley, who had the best front-nine score of any of the Cardinals at 2-under-par, concluded the day tied for 23rd. She birdied three of her first nine holes and tallied her fourth on No. 11, the seventh most in the 102-player field, helping her to a 1-over-par 73.
Lexie Long rounded out the top-four scorers at the event, logging a 3-over-par 75. The freshman, coming off a season-best 1-under-par 215 at the Cardinal Cup, is tied for 47th. Shaking a slow start that included three bogeys in the first nine holes, the Dublin, Ohio, native rebounded with an even-par 36 on the back nine.
