Women's Soccer Defeats Morehead State 1-0 on Thursday Night

Sophomore Isabella Habuda scores the game-winner for the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team defeated Morehead State 1-0 in a non-conference match on Thursday evening in Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
The Cardinals controlled possession for most of the match. Freshman Tina Marolt had the first shot on goal that went to the upper 90 but he keeper was able to get a hand on it and send the ball over the net in the 11th minute. Senior Hannah Konermann had another chance for the Cardinals in the 16th minute but the shot was saved.
The Louisville offensive pressure paid off in the 20th minute. Senior Rachel Avant sent a shot to sophomore Isabella Habuda which hit the left post. Habuda followed the shot and the ball rebounded back to her and she tapped it in for the goal, giving Louisville a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals had another chance in the half when Gabrielle Vincent's free kick hit the crossbar.
Louisville finished the first half with a 7-3 shot advantage while both teams finished with one corner kick. Morehead State's Kaitlyn Murphy finished with two saves in the first half. The Cardinal defense kept Morehead State without a shot on goal in the first half.
The second half was much of the same, with the Cardinals controlling possession. Habuda had another chance in the 49th minute but Murphy made the save. In the 55th minute Aubrey Baker had a shot hit the crossbar and bounce over the goal. Kaela Dickerman had another chance in the 69th minute for the Cards but Michelle Washburn made the save for the Eagles.
The Cardinal defense held tight in the second half and held Morehead State without a shot on goal for the match. Baker had the final chance of the match for the Cardinals in the 86th minute but Washburn made the save.
Louisville finished the match with a 15-4 shot advantage while Morehead State held a 2-1 corner kick advantage. Morehead State finished with six saves while Cardinal keeper Taylor Bucklin was not tested.
The Cardinals (5-5-1, 1-2-0 ACC) will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 4 as they travel to Syracuse for a noon match.
