LOUISVILLE TEAM NOTES
Wednesday's game was Louisville's first Atlantic Coast Conference home contest after making a successful conference debut on Sunday night in an 85-76 road victory at Wake Forest.
The Cardinals improved to 4-0 all-time against Clemson, including 3-0 at home. It was the first meeting between the schools since Louisville won 74-68 in 2006 at Freedom Hall.
Louisville improved to 2-0 in ACC games marking the third straight season they have opened conference play with back-to-back wins.
Louisville produced just one run of 8-0 or better on Wednesday but it was the pivotal stretch in the game when the Cardinals outscored the Tigers 17-0 during the first 6:37 of the second half to flip a 22-18 halftime deficit into a 35-22 advantage. Overall, Louisville has created 31 runs of 8-0 or better this season through the first 15 games.
Entering the week ranked 13th in the nation in scoring defense (55.7 points allowed per game), the Cardinals held an opponent to fewer than 60 points for the 10th time this season.
The Cardinals were outrebounded (40-37) for fourth time this season but improved to 3-1 in those games.
Louisville maintained its top five national ranking in steals (10.6 per game) finishing with 11 on Wednesday marking the 12th time this season they have finished with 10 or more steals in a game.
Averaging 6.5 blocked shots per game (No. 7 nationally), the Cardinals equaled a season-low with only one against Clemson matching the total against Minnesota on Nov. 14.
Committing only nine turnovers on Wednesday, Louisville finished with fewer than 10 turnovers for the second straight game and the fourth time overall.
Entering the week ranked eighth nationally in turnover margin (+5.1), the Cardinals exceeded that on Wednesday finishing +6 (15-9).
Wednesday marked the 12th time this season Louisville has forced an opponent into 15 or more turnovers.
Trailing at halftime for only the second time this season, Louisville equaled a season-low with 18 first half points.
Louisville improved to 76-10 all-time at the KFC Yum! Center, now in its fifth season as the home of the Cardinals.
The Cardinals moved to 284-43 (.868 winning percentage) over the last 14 seasons under the direction of head coach Rick Pitino when holding an opponent to less than 70 points.
LOUISVILLE PLAYER NOTES
Senior Chris Jones finished with a game-high 22 points marking the second straight 22-point performance for him.
Wednesday marked the first time in his two-year career at Louisville Jones has scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games.
Jones has scored 22 or more points three times in 15 games this season while last year, he surpassed 20 points three times overall.
Wednesday's marked only the second time this season Jones has led the Cardinals in scoring.
Jones equaled a season-high finishing with three three-pointers in his six attempts and also matched a season-high with five steals on Wednesday.
Sophomore Terry Rozier reached double-figures in scoring for the 14th time in 15 games this season finishing with 15 points overall.
Rozier has scored 15 or more points 10 times this season, including eight straight games overall.
Rozier also played a season-high 39 minutes on Wednesday night.
With 11 points, senior Wayne Blackshear reached double-figures for the 11th time this season.
Sophomore Mangok Mathiang finished with a team-high nine rebounds, his highest total since pulling down a career-best 11 rebounds against Marshall on Nov. 21.
