LOUISVILLE TEAM NOTES
Louisville halted a three-game losing skid to North Carolina while earning its first home win against the Tar Heels since a 97-80 victory on Dec. 23, 1999 at Freedom Hall.
The home team won each of the two matchups this season as the Cardinals and Tar Heels played twice in a single season for the first time in the history of the series.
Trailing by as many as 18 points early in the second half on Saturday, Louisville overcame its largest deficit for a win since trailing by 18 in the second half of its 71-70 victory against Marquette on Jan. 15, 2011 at the KFC Yum! Center.
Louisville earned its first overtime victory since Feb. 18, 2012 when they won 90-82 in overtime at DePaul. In that game, the Cardinals overcame a 17-point first half deficit to defeat the Blue Demons.
Saturday marked Louisville's first overtime game since Feb. 9, 2013 when they dropped 104-101 heartbreaker in five overtimes at Notre Dame.
Saturday's game was the Cardinals' first overtime contest at home since Jan. 7, 2012 when they fell 67-65 in double overtime to Notre Dame at the KFC Yum! Center.
Louisville produced two runs of 8-0 or better on Saturday -- a 9-0 run during a span of 1:20 in the second half to flip a 53-44 deficit to a 53-53 tie and a 10-0 during a span of 1:32 in overtime to increase a 66-64 lead to 76-64. Overall, Louisville has created 40 runs of 8-0 or better in 21 games this season.
Louisville outrebounded North Carolina 30-17 in the second half and overtime while finishing with a 17-0 advantage in second chance points during the final 25 minutes of the game.
The Cardinals improved to 11-1 this season when outrebounding an opponent after finishing with 46-44 edge overall.
For the second time this season, Louisville had two players (Harrell with 22pts/15reb & Terry Rozier with 22 pts/10reb) finish with double-doubles on Saturday. It also occurred at Wake Forest on Jan. 4, 2015 (Harrell with 25 pts/13reb & Chris Jones with 22 pts/10asts).
Louisville had 10 steals on Saturday marking the 14th time this season they have finished with 10 or more steals in a game. Saturday's game ended a stretch of four straight games with five or less steals for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals finished with five blocked shots on Saturday - the 14th time this season they have blocked at least five shots in a game.
Louisville forced the Tar Heels into 19 turnovers on Saturday, one shy of their season-high of 20 against Syracuse.
Saturday marked the most turnovers for a Louisville opponent since Long Beach State had 19 turnovers on Dec. 30.
The Cardinals' 44 free throw attempts on Saturday equaled a season-high first set on Nov. 21 against Marshall.
The 27 made free throws for Louisville Saturday were two shy of the season-high of 29 against Minnesota on Nov. 14.
LOUISVILLE PLAYER NOTES
Junior Montrezl Harrell earned his 20th career double-double and the eighth this season on Saturday scoring 22 points and pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds.
It was the most points in a game for Harrell since scoring 25 in the win at Wake Forest on Jan. 4, 2015.
The 15 rebounds for Harrell were the most for him since finishing with 17 against UNC Wilmington on Dec. 12, 2014.
Sophomore Terry Rozier earned his first career double-double scoring 22 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Rozier has scored 20 or more points seven times this season, including three straight games overall.
The 10 rebounds were one shy of Rozier's career-high of 11 against Cleveland State on Nov. 26, 2014.
In his last 14 games, Rozier has averaged 20.9 points while scoring 20 or more points in seven of those.
Twice in his career has Rozier attempted at least 20 shots in a game with both of those coming this season against North Carolina. He attempted 20 shots on Saturday after attempting a career-high 21 in Chapel Hill on Jan. 10 .
Senior Chris Jones reached double-figures in scoring for the 16th time this season on Saturday finishing with 17 points.
Jones matched a season-high for three-pointers made connecting on three for the sixth time this season.
Saturday marked the third straight game and the fifth time in the last seven games Jones has made a trio of three-point baskets.
Sophomore Mangok Mathiang blocked three shots on Saturday, the second highest total of the season and the most since blocking four shots against Cal State Northridge on Dec. 23, 2014.
